Conference Parables – Memorable stories in General Conference by those who told them.
In April 2010 General Conference, Keith B. McMullin, then Second Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric, tells a true story of a prisoner in Holland during World War II. The story is about how after Corrie ten Boom spends horrific months in the infamous Ravensbruck concentration camp, she is able to forgive one of the cruelest guards in the camp. She is only able to do this with God’s help. Once she forgave, she felt God’s love more intensely than ever before.Â
It is a powerful example of how in the face of hurt and tragedy if we but open our hearts and be willing to forgive, the Lord will bless us with the ability to do so. We will also see brighter days ahead and feel God’s love more than ever before. Â
Bishop McMullin echoes this and gives hope when he says, Â
“For those who eschew evil and live good lives, who strive for a brighter day and keep the commandments of God, things can get better and better even in the face of tragedy.”
