Music video “His Image in Your Countenance” by Janice Kapp Perry with beautiful images of Christ along with an object lesson on the Light of Christ explaining how it radiates from each of us and will continue to radiate even after we die.
SONG “His Image In Your Countenance”
OBJECT LESSON
You will need:
A tea light candle
Matches
Flashlight on a phone with 3 or more settings
Picture of Christ (*Needs to be a real one, not a digital one)
1.Turn off all the lights and light a small tea light candle with a match.
Talk about how this light can be compared to the Light of Christ and how the Light of Christ is given to every person when they are born – regardless of who they are – everyone receives the Light of Christ. The Light of Christ guides everyone to do good and to be good, some people call it your conscience. The more you do good and be good, the brighter the Light of Christ within you becomes. The more bad things you do, the Light of Christ diminishes or gets smaller.
2. Still in a dark room, blow out the tea light candle and turn on the flashlight on your phone to it’s lowest setting and have it shining on a picture of Christ.
Talk about how the Holy Ghost is different than the Light of Christ. The Holy Ghost is a personage, a member of the Godhead. The Light of Christ leads people to Christ and to finding the gospel. Once people are baptized, they receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and the Holy Ghost helps guide them to become more like Jesus Christ. As we heed the promptings of the Holy Ghost and live more righteously, the Light of Christ within us will grow even brighter.
3. Turn your flashlight to it’s brightest setting still pointing at the picture of Jesus Christ.
Talk about how in the scriptures we are told that as we live righteously, the Light of Christ will shine so brightly within us, that other people will be able to tell by our countenance. It may even seem to others that there is a glow about us.
Ask: What do you think happens after we die? Will we still have the Light of Christ shining within us? Yes, we will.

4. Turn on the brightest light in the room or all the lights in the room- make it really bright.
Talk about how this light (the brightness in the room) can be compared to the light that radiates from our Savior. When Joseph Smith saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, he said, “I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun…”
Explain how those who live righteously, when they die, will be able to shine as brightly as our Savior does. But those who don’t, will shine with a different brightness.
5. End by reading 1 Corinthians 15: 40 & 41 explaining how after we die and are resurrected we will each radiate a different brightness. How brightly we will shine is up to us. (Be sure and read the JST in the footnotes for verse 40.) Click HERE
