A poem that is taken from a popular hymn. Great to use in any lesson or talk on free agency.    Â
    One of my favorite methods of teaching is using poems. The cute, the funny and especially the thought-provoking. I love poems that tell stories or teaches a lesson or better yet, does both.  Have you ever read a poem and thought, “Hey, I know that song!” Or vice versa? It’s not uncommon for poems to become songs or a song to be a poem.
Â
     This poem is actually taken from the Hymn “Know This, That Every Soul is Free” (no. 240). Its message is simple yet gives a great perspective on the meaning of agency.
           Know this, that ev’ry soul is free            Â
To choose his life and what he’ll be;
For this eternal truth is giv’n:
That God will force no man to heav’n.
May we ever be mindful of the great power of agency that we each possess and use it for good.
