When members of the church are persecuted for Christ’s sake, it can make us feel alone. Watch Mormon Messages, None Were With Him, taken from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s talk as a reminder that because of Christ’s sacrifice, we are not alone.
In the scriptures, we read of how Jesus teaches his disciples to love one another and then warns them of persecution.
John 15: 17-19 it reads:
17. These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
The Savior’s disciples continue to face persecution today. As disciples of Christ, it is not uncommon for members of the Church to encounter some form of persecution such as anti-Mormon and hate-filled media and websites, exclusion, ridicule, and intimidation through angry behavior including cyberbullying.
When we are faced with persecution it is easy to feel alone, but we’re not.
From the words of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland:
…Because Jesus walked such a long, lonely path utterly alone, we do not have to do so…The merciful care of our Father in Heaven, the unfailing companionship of this Beloved Son, the consummate gift of the Holy Ghost, angels in heaven, family members on both sides of the veil, prophets and apostles, teachers, leaders, friends. All of these and more have been given as companions for our mortal journey because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the Restoration of His gospel. Trumpeted from the summit of Calvary is the truth that we will never be left alone nor unaided, even if sometimes we may feel that we are. Truly the Redeemer of us all said: “I will not leave you comfortless: [My Father and] I will come to you [and abide with you].”
