Quote and an object lesson on how if we don’t forgive and forget, it is like walking backwards with our eyes closed. Free PDF download included.
An important part of forgiving someone is not only letting go of bad feelings towards that person but to also not dwell on what happened. We need to forgive and forget.
OBJECT LESSON:
Create a maze with chairs and other objects. Ask for a volunteer. Blindfold the volunteer and have them try to go through the maze to the other side of the room blindfolded and walking backwards. They, of course, will probably go really slowly and bump into a few things making many mistakes.
When he/she has made it through the maze, have that same person do it again but this time without a blindfold and walking forward. They will have no problem walking through it quickly and easily.
The lesson to apply here is this:
When we fail to forgive and forget, we are, in a sense, walking backwards with our eyes closed, glued to the things of the past and it affects the things in our future. We progress more slowly and ineffectively towards returning back home to our Father in Heaven when we hold on to something someone else did to us. When we forgive and forget, we can walk forward in life more quickly and easily without the past holding us back. We can progress so much better spiritually if we simply let go and move on.
